Specifications on AMD A-series APUs revealed
Today, OBR hardware leaked a new set of information new APUs from AMD, Richland and Kabini APUs. He detailed the technical specifications and release date of Richland A-Series AMD APU. He also mentioned that the Richland APU will arrive during 19th March for desktop, which is a bit fast compared to the previous AMD Trinity APU’s release.
AMD Richland APU will be codenamed as Annapurna and will be compatible for FM2 socket. AMD will introduce a new chipset for Richland APU by the name AMD A88X and Richland supports A85X chipset too.
Moreover, the A-series APU will include Quad core A8, A10, A6 and Dual core A4 processors.
According to Wccftech, Specifications of AMD A series APU are listed as:
- A10-6800K Radeon HD 8670D 844 MHz/ Quad Core 100W, 4.1 GHz/4.4 GHz
- A8-6600K Radeon HD 8570D 844 MHz/ Quad Core 100W, 3.9 GHz/4.2 GHz

Release date of Richland and Kabini APU
Users can pair the new Richland AMD APU with AMD discrete graphic card to offer better graphics performance.
AMD Richland APU will be compatible with DDR3 DIMMs memory at 1866 MHz.
Moreover, it will also support 8 SATA 6GB/s devices, 4 USB 3.0 ports and 14 USB 2.0 ports.
AMD HD 8000 series graphic card will be based on Southern Island GCN architecture.
AMD APUs launch date
- BGA packaged Richland APUs during May 7 for notebooks and Ultrabooks.
- Kabini X-Series APUs during May 2013 for notebooks.
- Kabini APU during June 2013
AMD Kabini APU will include new Start Now Technology to offer accelerated start-up. So we can expect Kabini to offer better performance than its Bobcat predecessors, designed on 28nm architecture while featuring GCN based IGP solutions.
Performance of Richland and Kabini APU
In addition to APUs, AMD is also expected to launch FX processors, based on the Piledriver architecture in June 2013.
OBR has also revealed some benchmark results of upcoming APUs. Leaked 3DMark11 benchmarks show that AMD A10 Richland APU for desktop outperformed other offerings from Intel.

- A10 5800K scored 1489 points
- A10 6600K scored 1296 points
- A8-5600K scored 1193 points
PCMARK 7 benchmarks of AMD A10 6800K Richland APU
- A10 6800K scored 4176 points
- A10 6600K scored 4095 points
- Phenom X6 1100T scored 4021 points
- FX-8350 scored 4412 points
From the benchmark results, I have come to the following conclusion.
AMD is progressing well in the line of its APUs.
Regarding the performance level, Richland is doing good both in terms of CPU as well as GPU.
There is no miracle in terms of GPU performance in 3DMark11 benchmark, because the level of performance increase from AMD Llano 3870K to Trinity 5800K was around 370 points, but the same from Trinity 5800K to Richland 6800K is just 180 points. So there should be only a slight improvement in GPU performance level, still not bad.
Though I’m not sure about the reliability of these benchmarks, if these graphs holds true, then AMD has done a bit of improvement in CPU of A10 6800K APU.
From the PCMark11 benchmarks, you can see that A10 6800K performs almost equal to 2 – 3 years old AMD Phenom II X4 980.
Don’t get me wrong! Though Phenom II X4 980 is an older processor, it’s capable of playing any present day games or applications without any jerk. 2 years back, it was an enthusiast level processor, but AMD is giving that performance now to mid-range gamer level.
If Richland APU is priced around Rs.7,500 or $160 then users can get a complete Multimedia/Gaming PC (CPU + GPU) alone for such a price.
Let me say you one more thing that A10 6800K has scored 4176 points, which is close to FX 8350′s 4412 points. So, I conclude saying that AMD is moving it’s APU line up towards the performance segment.
